Opponent Changed for Love’s Debut

Metro Detroiter J’Leon Love is just one day away from his professional boxing debut in a four round bout on an ESPN televised undercard.

Two months after signing with manager Cameron Dunkin and TKO Boxing Promotions of Las Vegas, the former Kronk amateur will climb thru the ropes Friday at the Mohegan Sun Casino in southeast Connecticut.

His opponent changed from John Turner to Philadelphia’s Vince Burkhalter (0-2), reported Dunkin on Wednesday night.

The 26-year old Burkhalter recently moved to Louisiana but was born, raised and fought in the city of brotherly love. The southpaw fighter went the distance in his first fight against fellow debuter Derrick Webster last May and a body shot from a 3-0 Dante Moore in the first round ended his second fight a month later.

While Love's bout is not expected to be part of the television broadcast of the evening's main events, Dunkin said that Love is in "first swing," so if fights involving Robert Rodriguez or Joseph Elegele, Love's new teammates, were to end early that Love's fight would move up and be included in the broadcast.
