Scoring three knockdowns of his opponent, Romulus’ junior middleweight Eddie Gates won a mandatory stoppage victory over Indiana’s Patrick Walker (0-3) in the first minute of action on Friday making for a successful pro debut.

Gates was on a nine-bout card that took place January 15 at DeCarlo’s Banquet and Convention Center in Warren.

Walker is at least the third fighter in two weeks named as Gates’ opponent after Alonzo Scott and DeShawn Smiley fell through.

Detroit heavyweight Rahim Muhammad (2-0, 1 KO) won by TKO over another Indiana fighter, Robert Mendoza, making his debut.

Thirty-one year old Lonnie Redmond (3-0, 2 KO), of Detroit, returned to the ring for only the third time since winning the national Golden Gloves amateur tournament in 2001, to defeat Ohio’s Tim Back (2-1) in a heavyweight bout.

Grand Rapids’ Purnell Gates (17-1, 13 KO) won in a mismatch over Lansing’s Jaime Castellano (4-23) at junior middleweight.

Detroit’s Larry Carter and yet another Indiana fighter, Nathan Wilkes, fought to a draw in a premature stoppage after an accidental headbutting caused a substantial cut above Carter’s right eye.

Middleweight Demetrius Robinson (2-3), of Detroit, lost by TKO in the second mandatory stoppage of the night, after being dropped three times in round one by debuting Clevelander Michael Moore.
