Scoring
three knockdowns of his opponent, Romulus’ junior middleweight
Eddie Gates won a mandatory stoppage victory over Indiana’s
Patrick Walker (0-3) in the first minute of action on Friday making
for a successful pro debut.
Gates
was on a nine-bout card that took place January 15 at DeCarlo’s
Banquet and Convention Center in Warren.
Walker
is at least the third fighter in two weeks named as Gates’
opponent after Alonzo Scott and DeShawn Smiley fell through.
Detroit
heavyweight Rahim Muhammad (2-0, 1 KO) won by TKO over another Indiana
fighter, Robert Mendoza, making his debut.
Thirty-one
year old Lonnie Redmond (3-0, 2 KO), of Detroit, returned to the
ring for only the third time since winning the national Golden Gloves
amateur tournament in 2001, to defeat Ohio’s Tim Back (2-1)
in a heavyweight bout.
Grand
Rapids’ Purnell Gates (17-1, 13 KO) won in a mismatch over
Lansing’s Jaime Castellano (4-23) at junior middleweight.
Detroit’s
Larry Carter and yet another Indiana fighter, Nathan Wilkes, fought
to a draw in a premature stoppage after an accidental headbutting
caused a substantial cut above Carter’s right eye.
Middleweight
Demetrius Robinson (2-3), of Detroit, lost by TKO in the second
mandatory stoppage of the night, after being dropped three times
in round one by debuting Clevelander Michael Moore.
