Old
Coaches Appreciation Dinner Planned
Posted: October 3, 2009 / Revised: 11:45 pm
An appreciation
dinner is planned for Saturday, October 10, at UAW Local 140 in
Warren to honor those old time coaches that helped carry the sport
to where it is today.
Nine
coaches will be honored at the first of what organizers hope will
become regular events to thank coaches for their long years of dedication
both to the sport of boxing and to countless kids for whom the sport
meant a better life.
Michael
and twin brother Manson Halliburton, former amateur boxers themselves,
are behind the dinner planned to thank the nine trainers with more
than 300 plus years combined training experience. "It's about
time we honored (the coaches)," said Michael Halliburton. "It's
about time we gave back to them."
The
trainers being honored, and expected to attend, are: Dave Shoulders,
Bill Miller, Alvin "Blue" Lewis, Lawrence "Peanut"
Taylor, Wallace Cross, Floyd Logan, and Marty Gilday with special
tributes planned for recently deceased trainers John Brown and Walter
Smith.
Tickets
are $15 and only available in advance. The event starts at 6:00
pm with dinner to be served at 6:30 pm. More information can be
obtained by contacting Michael Halliburton at (313) 980-2661 or
Manson at (313) 585-2717. Click
