Kronk Fighters Shine at Inkster Rec

Taurrek Fikes put on a cracking good show at the Inkster Recreation Center--with several Kronk boxers coming forth with outstanding efforts. Too bad the September 24 card was so poorly attended. But those who did attend made enough noise for a full house as Fikes began the show only a few minutes late; he had the boxers on their marks and there were no breaks, giving the evening, already action-filled, a full night of entertainment in slightly more than two hours.

Of particular note, Kronk's Ronnie Austion turned in what this reporter viewed as the best performance of the evening. The whippet-thin lightweight showed blazing speed and decent power against an opponent who was no slouch, Downtown's Kevin White. Over a year ago, Austion was undistinguished in a bout held on a card in Detroit's Bert's Warehouse. Rarely does one see such improvement in such a short time, but Austion was a pleasant surprise. Now I'll look forward to his fights rather than wandering off to check out the hotdog situation.

The card also featured a very good scrap between Kronker Jacob Bonas and Rosario's (Battle Creek) Dorian Hatcher. Bonas was the clear-cut winner of the first round, but Hatcher came out bombing at the beginning of the second. He pinioned Bonas on the ropes and twice had him buckled over the ropes; Hatcher landed several stiff rights and Bonas looked stunned. Surprisingly, referee Ansel Stewart did not stop the action with an eight count. But Bonas recovered after a brief period and returned heavy fire before winning the final round decisively.

7. 60 lbs. Marcus Lee, Kronk, W3 Rudy Buenavista, Eastside.
8. 152 lbs. Jacob Bonas, Kronk, W3 Dorian Hatcher, Rosario's of Battle Creek.
9. 152 lbs. Le'Andre White, Kronk, W3 Anthony Willis, Rosario's.
