Two
Michigan fighters fought on the same out-of-state card with vastly
different results last week.
Ireland’s
and now-Detroit’s Andy Lee continued to improve his professional
record with an 8th round TKO of Indianapolis’ Anthony Shuler
(20-7-1, 14 KO) on August 21 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond,
Indiana.
In
the main event on a 7-fight card promoted by Billy Reese, Lee racked
up win #19 and his 14th by knockout ending at 2:05 of the eighth
round. The action had been scheduled for ten rounds.
In
contrast, Kalamazoo’s Guy Packer (3-24-2) was disqualified
in round three of his 4-rounder against 24-year old relative newcomer
Ninos Abraham (3-0-0).
According
to an Indiana Athletic Commission official, the 35-year old Packer
received “many warnings” for holding as well as deduction
of two points but the trouble was not with the fighter alone. The
fight was stopped after someone from Packer’s corner entered
the ring and “challenged” referee Kurt Spivey. The fight
is listed officially as a no-contest for both fighters.
