Four
Bouts Contested at Detroit GG Prelims
Posted: April 4, 2009
Preliminary
action got off to a disappointing start Friday evening as half of
the scheduled eight bouts did not take place. One boxer was unable
to make his declared weight while three others failed to compete.
Dynamic
Boxing’s Eddie Gates won a decision over Raymond Harris of
the Kronk Gym in open competition at 141 pounds. Gates is off Saturday,
returning Sunday against either Andriy Stankevych or Ali Eljahmi.
In
a super-heavy bout, Isiah Eatmon of the Shirley Boys Gym stopped
Dynamic’s Madian Kutob in the second round. Eatmon will fight
Kenneth Johnson on Saturday.
MASH
Gym’s Jarell Dobson stopped Jason Craigmiles of Dynamic in
round one of their sub-novice super-heavyweight fight. Dobson is
off until overflow action takes place at an April 18 club show.
Onkeese
McGraw of Kronk decisioned Motown’s Lester Hough at 178-lbs.
He is now scheduled to fight Kevin Fields on Saturday.
Ali
Eljahmi advances after his opponent, Kronk’s Steven Warren,
failed to make weight at 141 in the open division. Eljahmi is representing
the Southwest Detroit Boxing Club (SWD). He is matched against Hamtramck’s
Andriy Stankevych on Saturday.
James
Ballard of the Coleman Young Rec Center won on walkover after Kronk’s
David Windon was a no-show. Ballard’s teammate, John Shaw
III, and John Sarkisian of Infinity both opted not to fight moving
their opponents, Kenneth Johnson at 201+ lbs and Kevin Fields at
178-lbs respectively into the next round.
Gates
and Eljahmi are fighting in the open division with the ultimate
goal being a chance at this year’s national tournament in
Utah while the other bouts were in the sub-novice division.
Action
resumes at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor on Saturday at 1:00
pm.
