The Kronk Boxing Team hosted a night of 9 amateur contests at the Inkster Recreation Complex on Friday the 13th. A good sized crowd that nearly filled the gym witnessed a fine program of evenly matched bouts highlighted by the tremendous battle between James Smith of Butzel and Ernie Garza of Saginaw. The two exchanged continuous punches for the entire three rounds and were rewarded with a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd at the bout's conclusion. Smith edged out Garza for the decision win and was justly given the "fighter of the night" trophy as well. An excellent fight that had one judge at ringside saying he needed a calculator in attempting to tabulate the volume of punches as they were being thrown! Kudos to matchmaker Fikes for this one as well as several other interesting contests.
