Thursday night was the date for the latest promotion from Heavy Hitters, Ron Remus, and CLIP. Originally slated for Royal Oak's Farmer's Market the venue was changed to the Royal Oak Music Theatre and the fans were treated to a 7 all pro bout fight card.

In the opener, welterweight Andres Gorges of Windsor upped his record to 2-0 (both KO's) at the expense of Eric Rue. Gorges dominated the first round and after scoring a knockdown in the second proceeded to wail on Rue whose corner came to a towel waving rescue just as Rue was sinking to the canvas a second time.

Detroit heavyweight Chris Hancock struggled with Cleophris Glover of Bay City but prevailed by unanimous decision over 4 rounds. Glover spent most of the fight with his back to the ropes in a defensive position and Hancock was unable to figure out how to penetrate his guard to do any damage. With about 30 seconds to go in the bout both fighters opened up in a spirited exchange but it was too little, too late to make this tussle one to remember. Hancock remains undefeated at 3-0 while Glover drops to 2-8.

After a 5 year layoff Tommy Simaan came back to whack out Dustin Cooley with a big overhand right for a first round KO. Simaan improves to 3-1 while Cooley remains win-less at 0-2. Judging by his fans in attendance it is hoped that Simaan can maintain an active schedule going forward. Welterweights.

What a difference a couple of weeks can make. It was just this past July 19th that Pete Cantu and Jaime Castellano put on a spirited give and take battle in Bay City that Cantu won. This time it was all Cantu giving and all Castellano taking. Rather than brawl with Jaime, this time around Pete picked him apart. Boxing beautifully behind a stiff and punishing jab, Cantu battered poor Jaime throughout the bout, scoring a knockdown in round two. No sooner had Castellano rose from the canvas, Cantu went back to work blasting away with both hands until referee Ron Cunningham waved it off. Cantu now on a 7 bout win streak improved to 14-6 with the TKO 2 win. Castellano drops to 4-18 having now lost 7 of his last 8. He's entertaining but may be too tough for his own good as too many more outings like this one are not conducive to one's good health. Middleweights.

In a scheduled light middleweight six, Alexis Hloros was extended the full distance by Grand Rapids' Chris Grays. Hloros did most of the effective work bloodying Grays' nose in the process. Grays' experience was enough to make Alexis work hard for the unanimous decision win. Hloros advances to 6-2 with 5 KO's while Grays falls to 7-16.

Big Rich Power lashed out with a hard straight left to level debuting Jack Beeman for a crowd pleasing first round KO. Power spent most of the abbreviated heavyweight affair lining up Beeman and when he landed Beeman went down as if shot. Power now 2-0 both KO's.

In the six round super middleweight main event, Detroit's Darryl Cunningham worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Adrian's Dan Wallace. Wallace started his career with 8 straight wins but most recently has lost 5 of his last 6. Both engaged in earnest exchanges that kept the fight interesting but neither seemed to have the power to inflict serious damage on the other. Cunningham moves to 10-2 while Wallace despite this very game effort goes to 9-5.

Good venue, a good mix of jarring KO's with a couple of competitive distance fights, kept the crowd entertained and hopefully ready for more in the future.
