Settlement Worked Out in Paris Complaints
Posted: July 26, 2008

Representatives of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG) and former Detroit boxer Vernon “Iceman” Paris have worked out a settlement negating the need for a scheduled hearing on July 28.

Paris, who is currently suspended from boxing because of a failed post-fight drug test in December, 2006 was charged earlier this year by state officials with two additional rule violations for failing a second drug test in December 2007 and for failing to submit a sample after a February 2008 fight. Both new complaints are included in the settlement that was worked out over the past couple weeks.

While details were not reported, from past discussions it would appear that a substantial suspension period would be included in any settlement. Paris has been suspended since mid-March after he failed to pay a $250 fine for the first offense. Sportssummary has learned that that fine was recently paid.

A state official said details of the settlement agreement will not be made public until it is voted on by the Unarmed Combat Commission (formerly the Michigan Boxing Commission) at their next scheduled meeting in mid-September.
