For
Love, Injury puts Boxing on Hold Again
Posted: July 20, 2008
For
the second time in eight months, an injury has forced Kronk amateur
J’Leon Love to temporarily put boxing on hold.
The
20-year old Love has been training – for the second time this
year – at the prestigious U.S. Olympic Training Center in
Colorado Springs, Colorado since last week. On Thursday, during
a sparring session with 2007 National Golden Gloves champ Siju Shabazz,
Love broke his left hand.
While
he didn’t immediately realize the hand was broken, Friday
was a different matter. He underwent surgery at Colorado Springs’
Audubon Surgery Center where several pins were implanted, which
will remain in place for roughly four weeks. Initials reports indicate
that he will have to refrain from boxing for at least two weeks
after the pins are removed making his time away from the ring a
minimum of six weeks.
The
injury is forcing the Dearborn boxer to cut his stay in Colorado
short; Love is expected to return home on Monday. “When you
work hard,” an always positive Love said, “things like
this can happen.”
This
past December, Love was injured in a car wreck while returning home
from state Senior Open competition. That injury turned out not to
be as serious as doctors initially thought but it caused a couple
months break from the ring.
