Boxer Injured Friday is Doing Well

Ryan Meyer, who was felled during his boxing debut at Detroit’s historic Fort Wayne on Friday, was released the same night from a Detroit hospital and is doing fine.

Meyer, from Battle Creek, who had reportedly won three MMA fights, collapsed just 18-seconds into the first round of his fight with Alexis Hloros after an accidental headbutt. A punch from Hloros reportedly occurred nearly simultaneously prompting Referee Dale Grable to call it a knockout, negating the possibility for a no-contest that would have resulted if the head butt was the cause. Whatever the cause, Meyer collapsed and began convulsing according to veteran sports writer Lindy Lindell who penned the post-fight story for Sportssummary. Meyer was transported by ambulance to an unknown hospital and released shortly after..

According to Greg Ahrens, a boxing and caged-fight promoter who knows Meyer and his family, the young fighter is back home with his wife and doing fine. "He was fine in the ambulance," Ahrens said, adding that he insisted the fighter be checked out medically.

Ahrens also said a review of the fight tape may produce a challenge as he downplayed whether a punch with any force was involved in knocking Meyer down.

Neither Meyer nor Grable could be reached for comment by press time.
