Paris
Hearing Postponed
Posted: June 21, 2008
Wednesday’s
scheduled hearing in Lansing against pro boxer Vernon “Iceman”
Paris was postponed, department officials reported Friday morning.
June
18 had been the date set to hear a regulatory complaint against
Paris alleging that he failed a drug test following his December
13, 2007 fight with Kevin Carmody. Paris won the fight by technical
knockout and, in the process, won the World Boxing Foundation (WBF)
All-America’s Welterweight title. That title will almost surely
be stripped from Paris if he is found responsible, although WBF
officials have refused to comment.
A
third complaint was issued against Paris in March alleging that
he failed to submit to a post-fight drug test the month before following
yet another win, this time against Nasser Athumani.
A
new hearing date is now set for July 28 where it is anticipated
that both the second and third complaints will be heard together.
State officials report that a settlement may negate the need for
that hearing.
