Detroit Golden Gloves Conclude
Posted: April 13, 2008

The Detroit Metro Golden Gloves crowned twenty-one new champions following three days of quality amateur boxing over the weekend. Once again the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor was the scene and Casa De Boxeo’s Rene Munoz played host. Munoz’s years of experience of hosting both this event as well as the state Junior Olympics showed as this year’s event was very well organized and ran smoothly.

Seven bouts were contested Friday, 26 bouts contested Saturday and 22 more in the finals on Sunday. Of the 55 contested bouts, only the eighteen involving boxers 17-34 years of age were actually crowned Golden Gloves champs. Of those, the boxers in the open division – those having ten or more fights – advance to the national championships to be held in Grand Rapids next month.
