Kronk newcomers made up the two professional bouts that shared their talents along with the areas’ amateurs April 4 in Detroit’s Eastern Market on a well-received Pro-Am card, courtesy of Sugar Hill Boxing and Undisputed Promotions. It was the first of what the two promoters promise will be monthly shows at the venue – Bert’s Warehouse Theatre - which hosted one other such show in late 2006.

Kronk amateur favorite Domonique Dolton made his much anticipated pro debut in the headline event of the night. His scheduled opponent, Lucas Rodas of Indianapolis, fell through in the days prior so Derick Minton (then 0-1-0) of Monroe stepped in despite having been a stranger to a gym since last August, when he lost by TKO to Larry Ventus in what was the debut for both fighters.

Dolton had no trouble – a knockout looked possible in round one after a Dolton left hand put Minton on the canvas - with the out-of-condition Minton, who told anyone who would listen that he took the fight out of necessity, but added he would put in a good effort. That effort ended at 2:30 of the second round when he waved Referee Ron Cunningham over and voiced his desire to quit. That handed Dolton a TKO win for his debut, but Dolton – and the fans – deserved better.

In a great moment of one-upmanship, fellow Kronk (amateur) boxer Craig Lewis stole the thunder from Sportssummary and Comcast Local as he got the first post-fight interview with Dolton, as he headed into the ring to be interviewed by the cable commentators.

Kronk’s Edward Williams improved to 2-0-0 with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over debuting Dave Morris of Toledo at 148-lbs. All three judges scored the fight 39-37. Williams is expected to fight again on next month’s card at Bert’s.

A scheduled fight between Detroiter Larry Carter and Akron’s Josh Harris fell out without explanation.
