Heavy
Hitter Promotions and Clip Boxing have again teamed up to present
a night of professional boxing this Friday at the Ford Performing
Arts Center in Dearborn.
Detroit
favorite Vernon “Iceman” Paris (17-0-0, 12 KO) is scheduled
against Kenyan Nasser “The Silencer” Athumani (21-5-1,
16 KO) despite a reported hand injury, which caused Paris to drop
off a card at The Palace earlier this month.
The
38-year old Nairobi-born southpaw is coming off two TKO losses from
last year with his last win, also by TKO, some fifteen months ago.
Paris, by comparison, is undefeated having fought twelve times during
the same period. Paris, 20, is also Athumani’s junior, by
eighteen years.
Cleveland’s
Willie Nelson (6-0-0, 4 KO) is making a return to Michigan –
he was here in August on a Joe Bermudez show in Lansing –
against Ann Arbor’s Robert “The Wolf” Jones. In
contrast to Nelson’s perfect record, Jones (6-3-1, 2 KO) hasn’t
had a win in nearly four years and hasn’t fought in almost
two.
Karo
Ro (14-0-0, 7 KO) will cross from Windsor, Ontario to face Philadelphia’s
Lakeysha Williams (9-10-4, 1 KO). Ro, 32, last fought and won nearly
a year-and-a-half ago at Little River while her same-age opponent
has lost her last four contests, last winning in the District of
Columbia in June, 2004.
Monroe’s
Wade “Pay The” Tolle, Jr. (1-0-0) is making his second
professional appearance in the ring, following his UD win in his
August debut over Alexis Hloros, who is also fighting on Friday’s
card. Tolle will square off against less-than-impressive Guy Packer,
33, of Battle Creek. Packer (2-15-2) is on the tail-end of a three
loss streak while Tolle shows early promise. .
Middleweights
Alexis Hloros (1-2-2, 1 KO) and Jason Wahr (1-0-2) enter the ring
in a rematch. The two Michigan boxers fought to a draw after four
rounds in October in Sault Ste. Marie. Hloros is win-less in his
last four efforts with two losses and two draws following a knockout
win in his 2003 debut while Manistee’s Wahr is coming off
a draw.

Note: Our original post incorrectly reported that Vernon Paris'
hand injury forced him off the December show in Dearborn when we
should have said the cancelled bout occurred at The Palace earlier
this month. Sportssummary regrets the error.
